Our story
Some places are more than just a house. They are memories, home, and a piece of family history. Our 'Eifelperle' in Waatscheidt is exactly that kind of place.
High above the Heimbach Valley, surrounded by forest and nature, stands a house that has been bringing people together for 100 years. It was built in 1928 by Wilhelm Schunicht as a 'wine and coffee restaurant on Waatscheidt.' Even back then, guests appreciated the special location, the peace of the forest, and the wide view over the valley.
Birthdays were celebrated here, summer evenings were spent on the terrace, and family gatherings were held. Children explored the forest, adults enjoyed the view, and often people talked and laughed late into the night.
In 1944, the building was almost completely destroyed during the war. Very little remained of the once lively inn. In the years that followed, our grandparents rebuilt the house with a lot of dedication. Over time, the former inn gradually turned into a place where family and friends gathered and where new memories were created across generations.
For us personally, this house is also tied to a very special moment: In 2004, we celebrated our wedding here – together with family and friends, surrounded by the nature that still shapes this place today.
The more memories we associated with this house, the stronger the desire grew to preserve its special atmosphere and share it with others. Many people who visited us were just as thrilled by the peace, the nature, and the unique view over the valley as we were.
That's how the idea came about to preserve the house for the future while also opening it up to guests. So in 2019, we decided to renovate it thoroughly and redesign it as a holiday home. It was important to us to maintain its original character while creating a place where our guests can feel completely at home. Every room was designed with care, and every detail was deliberately chosen.
Today, the 'Eifelperle' combines its history with modern comfort. In the mornings, the sun streams through the treetops, during the day, hiking trails right outside the door invite you to explore, and in the evening, that special calm that has always defined this place sets in.
Since we opened our doors to guests, many new stories have been added. Families spend precious time together, couples enjoy a getaway in nature, and friends create shared memories. Every stay leaves its own mark and becomes part of the story of this house.
